The Future of Fertility Technology – CBC Interview

Earlier in the month, Parnian was interviewed by the CBC about the smart underwear Fibra is creating and it’s impact on fertility and women’s health.

We are also aware of the fact the article and video are in French.

We have taken the video, transcribed it, and translated it into English.

The transcript is below.

CBC Reporter (Andreane Williams): At this laboratory in downtown Toronto, we are creating the future’s underwear. The idea may seem futuristic, but for the past two years, the company Fibra has been developing a reusable female underwear capable of collecting all kinds of information about the female reproductive system thanks to sensors placed in the underwear.

[Parnian quick bit]

CBC Reporter: For now, the company wants to help women get pregnant more quickly by informing them about their cycle of ovulation. In the future, underwear could also detect diseases such as sexually transmitted infections and maybe even luteal collar cancer. Sensors are connected to a mobile app and can already record skin temperature.

[Parnian quick bit]

CBC Reporter: According to the company’s founder, this type of technological innovation is essential for women, since the research surrounding their sexual health accuses of significant delay.

Frederique Chabot: Medical research is mainly focused on men, and there is a bias on that side, which means that conditions that affect especially women, people who identify as “others”, are not well studied and represented.

Dr. Dre Rubin: We are decades and decades behind. Women’s sexual health is really at the bottom…it’s misogynistic at every level…It’s proof that women’s sexual health is not prioritized.

[Parnian quick bit]

CBC Reporter: They [male investors] didn’t understand the problem that they were trying to solve because they didn’t experience it themselves, they said. They had to be taught about ovulation, the menstrual cycle, uterus cancer, and its detection methods.

The company hopes to launch its smart pants on the market by the end of the year, 2020. And by the same token, we’re starting a little revolution…
